1weekend, 2friends, 3decades, 4ever.
Good Morning.
My coffee is hot. And I’m ready to write.
At the end of each day, I like seeing which posts are popular….and which are not. So hoping you’ll enjoy this one…
______
3 Decades
Over the past 3 decades, I have been blessed to have a good friend.
We met when we were quite young, extremely optimistic, and incredibly happy.
My friend was a bridesmaid in my wedding.
We were charter members of The Restaurant Club in Houston.
There were only two members.
To add new restaurants to our repertoire of fine eateries, we would enjoy an incredible dinner ending with a delicious dessert.
The night had only begun.
We would talk into the early morning hours without taking a breath or looking at a clock.
2 Friends
We are 2 friends who have shared a lifetime of events.
For the most part, we have lived in different cities.
My friend and I share many of the same views and beliefs.
But we are respectfully and refreshingly very different at the same time.
Our friendship bonded through life’s major milestones.
She was my confidante’ and roommate in my hotel – the night before my wedding.
I met her adorable daughter in the hospital the day she was born.
We celebrated the good stuff together.
And we supported each other during the rough rides that life threw at us without warning.
1 Weekend
And on 1 weekend in the fall, we reunite.
We dedicate two days to searching for outrageously fabulous merchandise at the best outlet mall in America.
Neither of us live in this town, so it’s truly a weekend getaway.
No doubt, we are Ladies of Lists.
So we come fully prepared – with a defined strategy and premeditated plan of attack – to find the perfect Christmas gift for our family and friends.
You’d think we would shop side-by-side after not seeing each other for a year. But we don’t.
We shop at a different pace.
And we shop for different items.
Frequent texts are sent back and forth when we find something fitting the description of an item on the other one’s shopping list.
In the afternoon, we break for an obligatory Starbuck’s rendezvous.
It is at an outdoor table or bench that we convene for conversation.
A needed time-out. A healthy dose of chitchat. An essential resting of our aching feet.
Then, back we go on our shopping safari to find hidden treasures at extraordinary prices.
When the sun is setting and our cars are stuffed with shopping bags…our first day of blitzing bargains is finally complete.
Now for the best part of the day.
With huge appetites, we feast at the exact same restaurant each year.
Reminiscent of the ole’ Restaurant Club.
We talk.
We laugh.
And sometimes, we cry.
We share every important detail from the previous 11 months. The good ones. The bad ones. Everything.
Then on to the hotel.
It’s Show & Tell time.
We ‘show’ all of our great purchases…
And ‘tell’ who will be that lucky family member to receive that item on December 25th.
There’s plenty of ooooohing and ahhhhhing from us both.
We admire each other’s tasteful selections.
Then just like the early days – we talk into the early morning hours without taking a breath or looking at the clock.
