Happy New Year! Hello 2021!
Hello YOU!
And Hello 2021!
Yes, I’m over-committed and over-challenged already…..just my way of running as far and fast away from 2020 as possible.
My final course and portfolio project for my certification in College Admissions Consulting just began….and I am entering a writing contest with a looming deadline facing me square in the face every morning. So why am I blogging????
Would you like some tasty food for thought?
So what did I learn which will help create a productive and positive 2021?
People talk too much. Way too much. I realized more than ever that celebrity doctors, political leaders, news anchors, and (fill-in-the-blank) – just love to hear syllables come out of their mouths…..without any regard on the impact it has on the listener. I spent the first half of 2020 hanging on every single word uttered from the “medical experts” on television who contradicted their own opinions and advice monthly. This caused almost as much stress as the C-virus.
Edit the content you read and hear this year. Find worthy sources of information whether it be about current events, health, style, parenting, entertainment….whatever the topic….be selective about who and what you choose to fill your mind with on a daily basis.

People devoted to and devoured by social media are not my type of people. I know I’m a dinosaur. But I’ve never tweeted or had an Instagram account or a personal Facebook page (is that what you even call that?) Many years ago, my sons made a page (?) account (?) for my blog. The blog posts were inspirational and written with an emphasis on positivity and production. Whewwwww! 90% of the comments were great. But the toxic 10% were just too, too ‘what the heck -whatever’. It was obvious that there was a population of completely dissatisfied souls who were most probably unfulfilled in their current situation and needed a platform to spit and spew.
There are 2 types of people who are radioactive on social media. The type that takes out their hurt and hate on everyone else’s posts or tweets….and the type that curates and culls their post to present a perfect life. Both are not healthy to read.
Do you have another second….for a short story?
A friend once sent me a magazine-worthy picture of her family. They were all dressed-to-the-nines and smiling with perfectly aligned ‘piano-key’ teeth. It was a fantastic picture. She texted it to me because she knew I didn’t do Facebook and would never see it. Later, when I saw her in person, I commented how lovely her family looked in the photo.
She told me the backstory of that day. There were arguments. Crying. Insults. Threats to leave the event early. Name-calling. Eye-rolling. And more…..But to look at that photo, you would think it was the happiest day in that perfect family’s life.

Soooooo my New Year’s message to you, dear Reader is:
Edit your media intake….. and edit anything and everything that consumes your precious 2021.
Then, Edit some more.
And lastly, Edit your Edits.
Make your days full of the good stuff. And only you can define what’s good to you.
Of course, chaos and unexpected troubles may find all of us this year, but you (and me) can control what you deliberately choose to fill your daily routine with….right?
Like my card says: Have a joyful New Year!!!!
