FOREVER & NEVER
My Beloved Chihuahua Grandson who brings me happiness every time he visits!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let’s talk about 2 powerful words.
FOREVER & NEVER.
Unspoken as thoughts.
Said in conversation.
Written as content.
In all forms, these words have strong currents.
Over the years, I have found these words to be dangerously limiting.
We, Baby Boomers, over-use these words.
It makes our lives neat and tidy and absolute.
But You and I must know by now – life isn’t usually neat and tidy and absolute.
Life can and will be very messy at times.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In full disclosure, “Forever” use to be one of my favorite words.
I built my “forever’ home….TWICE.
In 1999, I labored over every tiny detail when I built my home.
I carefully controlled the ‘clearing’ of the heavily treed lot to the pouring of the slab along side a certified home inspector …. to the final walk-through the night before closing.
It was, for all intents and purposes, my FOREVER and EVER home.
I vowed never to move again. I spent waaaaay too much life building that home.
Hmmmm.
I’ve moved twice since that address.
And in 2012, I built my 2nd FOREVER home.
Again, I witnessed every single detail of every single stage of the building.
I even placed a very special charm in the center (heart) of the first floor…on the night before the slab was to be poured.
For the better part of a year (while working full-time), I analyzed and debated over drawer pulls, lighting choices, and the placement of electrical outlets.
I had a design board filled with tile samples and paint chips and floor plans.
I don’t think I was very easy to live with during that period.
Luckily, I still live in this Forever dwelling….for now.

So what about NEVER?
In my youthful bliss of freely tossing out words without a second thought, I never thought twice about saying ‘never’.
I will never be “just” a stay-at-home mom. (Well, I was “just’ that for 2 decades plus.)
I’ll never register my child for over-the-top competitive sports. (Both sons played college baseball and began traveling teams in elementary school.)
I would never live in the ‘boring & unconscious’ suburbia. (Spent most of my adult life in the ‘burbs. Still live there!)
I will never love a chihuahua: They are really just rodents. (My chihuahua grandson is the love of my life!)
I will never forgo my personal happiness in pursuit of making my children happy. (Right! I’m laughing hysterically as I type this absurdity. Heck, I didn’t just stop putting on my happy – I forgot what makes me happy!)
I will never do this or that…..yada yada. I did contradict all of the above. And more. Much more.

So why dedicate a blog post about these two seemingly innocuous words?
Because…..
Forever is a very long time.
And Never is, well, just the ultimate limitation in life.
When we issue out a proclamation into the universe as an absolute –
Forever and Ever and Always…..or No, No, Never – Not Ever!
You mentally place unnecessary and mentally binding restrictions.
And, we – Boomers – really don’t comprehend the concept of how words can change the world.
Many fellow-Baby Boomers think words are cheap and meaningless.
Giving words too much creedence is voodoo science, so I’ve been told!
But think about this progression…
Thoughts become Words.
Words become Actions.
Actions define Habits.
Habits shape lives.
