KonMari – The Second Week Begins
And notice the round stickers in the trash bag? This sheet of Save-the-Date envelope stickers was from our Christmas party in 2013! Yep!
There’s so much logic to save a date….from 5+ years ago! It’s only 2019! But I’d only admit that to YOU!
This is a working space now.
A shelf for my writing.
A shelf for our family finance.
My armoire doesn’t cause huge amounts of stress when I open the door. It stores pertinent and purposeful paperwork for my writing career and for my family’s household to run properly and efficiently.

This is my last post on problematic paper. For those of you who share this affliction & addiction to paper goods, allow me to sum up my feeling and findings from my KonMari paper path.
- Paper is probably my most powerful trigger. I was reduced to tears several times throwing away greeting cards (I re-read the section on page 104 to get up the courage to throw away old Christmas cards.)
- Paper conjures up memories from the worst of times….and the best moments of my life. My eyes welled up when looking at old medical reports and doctor bills (which should have been shredded decades ago!!) And I had tears of joy when I looked through my teaching supplies and realized how they helped students over the last 20 years.
- Paper provides proof and protection from future problems. I have always felt – if I had paper-proof of purchases, sales, donations, all of life’s transactions…then I would be able to piece together credible accounting of everything done. Call that OCD, if you will. But paper was my insurance policy. In full disclosure, I kept much of this type of paperwork because peace-of-mind brings me JOY. And all of this important paper is neatly stored in labeled binders.
I acknowledge that on page 96, Marie wrote – “My basic principle for sorting papers is to throw them all away.” Let’s just say: I had enormous success in tossing and shredding tons of paper. Seriously. Tons! I don’t think I would have thrown a single sheet of paper away without permission from KonMari.
So on this Monday, I have a few more hours to sift through paper…..and then on to massive Komono (miscellaneous items which includes the kitchen) which will most likely take a week, I’m sure of it.
I’m glad we’re traveling down this tidying trail together. Talk soon.
