KonMari meets Hygge Part 2…Being Happy with what you have now!
Cozy. Comfortable. Casual.
Surround yourself with things that bring good feelings & joy into your home.
Isn’t that the common denominator for living a life of Hygge & KonMari?
So how do you make your home “Hygge Headquarters”?
I’m here this Monday morning to give you quick, easy, and inexpensive ways to transform out-of-date decor into transitional, stylish pieces.
Read on.
Do you have old cans or cartons of arts & craft paint hiding in a closet?
If the answer is NO – not to worry!
You can easily buy a small pot of glaze for next-to-nothing in stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.
(If your budget is really tight this month, try to find a coupon online. Many times you’ll find a 40% coupon for these stores.)
Any glaze will do!

I just happened to have a rich, silver/gray glaze left over from an art project in 2012. That’s right, these products do keep for years if they are stored properly.
And, the disposable, single-use foam brushes are a mere 39-70 cents.
These small tools will give you bigtime results.

Notice the little trunk on the top shelf of my first photo?
I think it goes rather nicely with the large pewter platter and the gold-brushed miniature oil painting!
Well, if you saw that little trunk before the glaze, you’d wonder why I didn’t toss that thing in the trash.
In fact, my husband suggested I do just that!
No way…..I said.
I really like the unexpected look that boxes in all shapes and sizes give to a set of built-in bookshelves.
So many decorators use the same ole’ standard stuff….. books, vases, silk arrangements, and figurines.
Also, I use these little chests for storage.

So – how did I transform this dull, mousy-brown trunk into Fabulous?
I bought this trunk about 20 years ago at a local Marshall’s for less than $10.
After 2 days and 2 coats of my silver glaze…(I let the first coat dry 24 hours before applying the 2nd coat.)
Abracadabra!!!
A “new” chest… of sorts.

This outer frame was the same bright gold as the fillet (that small inner moulding next to the acrylic painting).
I swished on a light coat of my silver glaze for a nice contrasting look.
The gold tones peak through the silver glaze for a unique layered look.

You are looking at frames on 2 collages.
The top frame is the original finish which was a stale, yellowish tint.
I added a thin coat of glaze for an instant antique-look.
Since these twin collages of Nitro were mounted securely to my wall. I decided to paint-in-place. [See my post about Nitro (dog son) in summer of 2015.]
It was easy to do.
I used a sheet of heavy cardstock sheet as a shield for the photo glass.
And, there you have it.
A burnished, vintage product that looks a lot more expensive than the original $12 bucks I paid when it was brand new!
