Mother of the Groom: You need to wear beige and shut up!
The Rings will be my Cupcake Tower Topper
for the Rehearsal Dinner
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Growing up in the Deep South, I have always heard – jokingly – that the Mother of the Groom (MOG) should just wear a non-descript, frumpy, borderline-ugly beige dress to blend in with the background.
And, she needs to shut-the-mouth (secured with duct tape, if necessary) so her opinions are silenced forevermore.
Of course, that is simply not the case today!
Absolutely not.
In a few months, I will have the honor of being the MOG. After reading Wedding Blogs, I discovered that I have two big jobs:
Rehearsal Dinner & Groomsmen Paraphernalia.
Right now, I am in my pre-MOG planning days…and loving every minute.
Believe you me, major decisions are a delightful, collaborative effort between my future daughter-in-law and me.
So far, I have had the pleasure of designing and assembling the “Groomsmen Boxes”. Until a couple of months ago, I didn’t know such a thing existed. But let me tell you – it was great fun! I am just about finished!
I am always about saving a dime and a dollar – here and there. Of course, I need to share my findings with you. This way, you can save not only money, but your precious time in locating items.
THE GROOMSMEN BOXES
These boxes will be given to the honored young men as an invitation to stand in the wedding. My son chose most of the items included in these boxes.
The actual boxes were purchased for $1 each at a local Cigar Shop
The monogrammed cards (with the single gold letter) were from Michaels in the $1 bins near the front of the store. I think there were 6 cards/pack.
Always look online, in newspapers, and in the mail for Michaels coupons.
These little candy jars were only $1.50 at Michaels.
Neat feature – each jar has a magnetic base.
I used regular, standard bows – clipped the edges to resemble a formal bow tie worn with a tux.
From Michaels, I believe they were $3.99/pkg.
I made a tiny box for my Grand Dog who will be Honorary Ring-bearer.
He is adorable and darling, in every way, so it was compulsory that he be included in the Groomsmen festivities.
THE REHEARSAL DINNER
I assembled a binder for the Big Dinner.
This is where I store menu choices, music selection, seating arrangement, and every other detail involved in making this a beautiful, celebratory event for my son and his future wife.
To keep the budget from blowing up, I am going to a 1-day flower arrangement class and making the centerpieces.
The professional florist estimates were prohibitive, so I decided to learn a new skill.
The menu includes choice of desserts, but I got special permission to import my cupcake tower.
About a year ago, I enrolled in the Wilton Buttercream Skills Class. It was so much fun to learn how to make professional-looking cupcakes without spending almost 4 bucks for a little cake-in-a-cup.
The Cupcakes can be taken home in little bakery boxes to be eaten as a late night snack for guests who will be so excited… they can’t go to sleep before the big day.
I’m collecting invitation samples.
I want my future daughter-in-law to choose her favorite one.
There are so many reasonably priced online options for invitations now. These samples are from Wedding Paper Divas.
There are coupons floating around for almost every online store. I was sent a 20% coupon with my samples!
Can you tell I’m both honored and excited to be a MOG? Well, my two big responsibilities are well on their way to planning completion, so I guess I better start shopping for that darn BEIGE DRESS.
It goes without saying….but I need to say it anyway. I do not review, promote or pitch any product, book, gadget, etc…for a fee. If I like it…saves money or time…and helps make life easier or better in some way, I’ll share my findings with you!
