The Mountain ~ Conquering Big Obstacles… with Small Wins

Colorful sunrise on the Cristallo group range

Those who remove mountains begin by carrying away small stones.

~ Chinese Proverb

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank Goodness It’s Friday.  Already.
Let’s visit a little before we begin today’s post.
We had another great week.  Again, thank you to the newest readers for joining.
Can you believe it is May 1st?
For me, May and December are very similar.
Both months are busy and rushed to get things done before the end of the month.
Only difference:  There are no beautifully wrapped gifts to open in May…And we don’t eat outlandishly decadent desserts for 4 weeks.  Perhaps, we might get a big BBQ lunch and chocolate sheet cake for Memorial Day, but that’s about it.
Anyway, I welcome the month of May.
My college son comes back to our home state for the summer.  He will be hours away from us – not days away.
The Mountain was the topic I had slated for last Friday, but something moved me to write about The Stone.
So my mountain was pushed back a week.
Enough chitchat.  On with my personal message to you.
I hope it helps you remove the mountain in your life.
_____
Those who remove mountains begin by carrying away small stones.
This Chinese Proverb is one that I like to read when life presents an overwhelmingly large obstacle or task.
In full disclosure, I fail miserably when trying to adhere to the principles of this quote.
So really, I am writing to myself….and hoping to inspire You with a story about a person whose execution of this proverb is exquisite.
That person is my husband.
_____
Since 2013, I stood in complete awe of my husband who embodied the very essence of this Chinese Proverb.
He started his own company – after decades of working shoulder-to-shoulder with the same business partners.
With absolute and unwavering resolve, he began carrying away small stones without ever focusing on the unfathomable, enormity of his mountain.
Day after day and month after month, he put his head down and went to work at his desk.  Carrying small stones.
The sky was dark when he began each morning….and it was dark when he finished for the day in the evening.
He carried small stones on the weekend.
The mountain is not totally removed.  But you should see how much smaller that mountain is today…2 years later.
Even though I have used my spoken words to compliment his work ethic and his visionary pursuit, I do not think for one second my praise fully described the love, respect, and admiration I have for my husband.
Perhaps these written words will convey my gratitude.
_____
 If this proverb was a coin.  Flip it.  And the antithesis would be ME.
During this very uncertain time in our lives, I was scared.  And nervous.  And anxious.  Our mountain was huge.
But I watched for the better part of 600 days how my husband only saw a pile of rocks….when I only saw an insurmountable mountain in front of us.
My hope for you this Friday is:  When life presents you with your next mountain, I hope you will remember my post and this Chinese Proverb.  I hope your mountain disappears as you consistently carry away your small stones to success.
Small Daily Wins will Conquer Big Obstacles.
Forever grateful for your readership.  And forever wishing you well.
Let’s make a point to talk on Monday.
